LFPC - FRANCE GALOP
« BE MY LUCKY STAR »
This slogan is aimed at illustrating the operation led to provide a quiet and honourable retraining to racehorses.
HOW DOES IT WORK ?
The career of racehorses may be interrupted or not start at all for different reasons among which :
- the age of thoses which have been running for several years
- an injury which will prevent definitely the horse from running
- a lack of « quality » for novice horses which have never seen a racecourse.
When a racehorse is in such a case, then its future is unfortunately called into question. Even if professionnals try to find solutions such as sale or retirement to enable racehorses to escape slaughterhouse, they sometimes lack time and means and so, horses can’t always benefit from those solutions.
BUT NOW, THANKS TO THE PARTNERSHIP
BETWEEN FRANCE GALOP AND LFPC,
SAVING HORSES IS EASIER AND FASTER :
When a professionnal (whoever he is : owner, trainer, jokey or somebody else) has no choice but to part from a horse (able or not) then all he has to do is to get in touch with LFPC.
You will have to give all documents concerning the animal, especially the property certificate which will be established at the name of the League.
Then your horse will be taken care of and sent to a center where it will be readapted to a leisure life (a new way of life and a different food). It will be ridden gradually so as to observe its behavior and its character. As soon as it is possible, the horse will be taken in a family.
When we have found the horse a new rider, this one has to sign a « placing convention » stipulating that he will respect all conditions required by the League for the horse. It is worth noticing that the League is the official owner of the horse and before we confide the horse to somebody, we make sure that its future accommodation is one of quality. Besides if we notice during a check that the horse no longer enjoys a good quality life, then this one is taken away from the rider.
As for disabled horses, the procedure is the same and they are sent to the same centers but they won’t be ridden anymore and they will be taken care of.
